1st FAIR Plan wildfire smoke-damage test case set for October 2027

A Los Angeles judge set the first trial over FAIR Plan's handling of smoke-damage claims from the 2025 wildfires for October 2027 and allowed individualized discovery for all 21 bellwether households.

The first test trial over allegations that the California FAIR Plan mishandled smoke-damage claims from the 2025 Los Angeles County wildfires is set for Oct. 25, 2027.

Superior Court Judge Samantha P. Jessner rejected the plaintiffs' push for a July 2027 trial and the insurer's bid to wait until early 2028, calling both schedules "unrealistic" and choosing a date between them.

Jessner also scheduled six subsequent trials through November 2029.
