Writers Guild follows states in bid to block Paramount-Warner Bros. merger
The Writers Guild of America filed an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block Paramount Skydance Corp.'s proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., arguing the merger would reduce competition for film and television writers, as a coalition of 12 state attorneys general presses for an emergency order to stop the deal from closing.
The Writers Guild of America on Tuesday sued in the Northern District of California to block Paramount Skydance Corp.'s proposed $110.9 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc., alleging the merger would unlawfully increase the studios' buying power over film and television writers in violation of federal antitrust law.
