Bill would require disclosure of original claim owners in court filings

SB 932 targets efforts to hide litigation interests through assignments to shell companies.

A quickly advancing bill in the California Legislature is aimed at fighting the shell game that sometimes comes up in civil litigation.

SB 932 passed the Assembly Judiciary Committee 12-0 on Tuesday. It would require anyone who receives another person's legal claim to disclose the original owner's name in the case title when they first file in court.
