Judge tosses murder charge against ex-LAPD officer in Venice Beach shooting
A Los Angeles judge dismissed the murder indictment against former LAPD Officer Clifford Proctor, ruling that a former special prosecutor failed to adequately present evidence of malice and exculpatory evidence to the grand jury. Prosecutors plan to appeal the decision in the decade-old fatal shooting of Brendon Glenn.
A Los Angeles judge on Friday dismissed a murder indictment against former LAPD Officer Clifford Proctor, finding the special prosecutor, Lawrence S. Middleton, who secured the indictment, failed to adequately present evidence of malice and exculpatory evidence to the grand jury in the 2015 fatal shooting of a homeless man.
Superior Court Judge Ronald S. Coen issued the order, granting the defense's motion to dismiss.
