LA supervisors seek state constitution change to get rid of sheriff

The move to consider changing state law to settle a local dispute between elected officials is likely to raise opposition from around the state.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is hinting it wants to amend the state Constitution to have all 58 county sheriffs be appointed rather than elected, intensifying their effort to remove Sheriff Alex Villanueva from office before voters can weigh in.

The move to consider changing state law to settle a local dispute between elected officials is likely to raise opposition from across the state.
