Santa Clara Superior Court imposes furloughs, mulls layoffs to bridge budget deficit
The county court is the first in California to announce a reduction of staff to make ends meet following Gov. Gavin Newsom’s state budget that cut nearly $200 million from trial courts.
Santa Clara County Superior Court imposed 26 furlough days on executive and non-union staffers, offered severance payments and indicated layoffs may follow to bridge a $16 million budget deficit.
The court is the first in California to announce a reduction of staff to make ends meet following Gov. Gavin Newsom's state budget that cut nearly $200 million from trial courts, according to the Judicial Council.
