Don't expect retired Judge Jo-Lynne Lee to arm-twist parties into settlement.
Instead, the former Alameda County Superior Court judge relies on careful listening, thoughtful preparation and respect for every participant in the mediation process.
"You have some mediators and judges who have a very strong feeling about a case, and they're pretty vehement about making it known," Lee said. "I'm not that way at all."
