CHULA VISTA -- Long before Sherry M. Thompson-Taylor became a San Diego County Superior Court judge, she watched another judge from the back of a Las Vegas courtroom and decided the job looked pretty good.

Thompson-Taylor was in law school and interning with Nevada Legal Services, where she worked on landlord-tenant matters. She had been sent to observe eviction proceedings when a city attorney arrived with a large stack of misdemeanor cases.
