Superior Court Judge Huy T. Nguyen never imagined he would become a judge. As a freshman at UC Irvine, he planned to become an optometrist until one calculus exam abruptly changed his career.

"I did attend class, and I took the exam, answered every single question," Nguyen recalled. "Somehow, I got no credit for any of my responses."
