LOS ANGELES — Becoming an attorney was unexpected for Superior Court Judge Lauren Weis Birnstein, who grew up in South Los Angeles and never aspired to be a lawyer.
After graduating as a history major at UCLA, she worked for a little while and then traveled the globe, spending time in Mexico, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Tanzania and India.
