UCLA'S Rose Bowl exit plan: Texts, lawsuits and a $280M renovation | Kabateck & Karnikian: Off the Record, Ep. 2
UCLA is signed to the Rose Bowl through 2044 -- so why is it accused of communicating with SoFi Stadium about leaving? Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down Pasadena's lawsuit against the Regents and what a landlord can do when its tenant is a football powerhouse heading for the door.
UCLA has a lease to play football at the Rose Bowl through 2044. Pasadena spent hundreds of millions in taxpayer-backed renovations counting on that commitment. Now UCLA is accused of communicating with SoFi Stadium about leaving. Brian Kabateck and Shant Karnikian break down the City of Pasadena's lawsuit against the Regents, including the anticipatory repudiation, breach of contract, and tortious interference claims, UCLA's failed TRO bid in front of Judge Chalfant, Judge Lipner's recent tentative ruling denying UCLA's demurrer and anti-SLAPP motion, and what mitigation even looks like when your tenant is a major college football program. Brian, a USC alum, somehow manages to stay on the merits. Mostly.
