Pillsbury lawyers' band wins top honor at LA Law Rocks

"Pillsbury Doughboys" take Judge's Choice award as legal industry battle of the bands raises more than $560,000 for music education nonprofits.

The Pillsbury Doughboys, a rock band of attorneys and partners from Pillsbury Law in Los Angeles, won the Judge's Choice award for best band at the 15th annual LA Law Rocks Battle of the Bands at Hollywood's Whisky-a-Go-Go.

Firm partner Robert Wallan, co-lead of the firm's national Insurance Recovery and Advisory practice group, said the band's set list featured songs by Talking Heads, Fleetwood Mac, the Cure, K-pop Demon Hunters, A-ha, Linkin Park and the Killers.

"Lynsi Snyder, the owner of In-N-Out, made a guest appearance on bass for our last song and was joined by a big contingent of her team," Wallan said. "The band includes alums from TikTok, LA Olympic Organizing Committee and Cloud Kitchens."

Wallan said the event drew a strong turnout of fans, clients and alumni, including a large contingent of Pillsbury lawyers.

The Doughboys raised $27,000. Across three nights, the Los Angeles Law Rocks competition raised $563,348 in total, with $295,890 from tickets and sponsorships and $267,458 from direct donations.

The event is sponsored by BD&J; Greenberg Glusker; Greenberg Traurig; McNicholas & McNicholas; and Winston & Strawn; Baker McKenzie; Perkins Coie; In-N-Out Burger; and Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman; as well as Allen Matkins; Aptus Court Reporting; Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete; Cox, Castle & Nicholson; Foley & Lardner; Glaser Weil; Judicate West; Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp; Wolf Greenfield; Buchalter; Davis Wright Tremaine; Fisher Phillips; IMS Legal Strategies; LawFirmPhotos.com; Sandline Global; Thomson Reuters; and Veritext.

A core part of Law Rocks' mission is supporting youth music education. In 2023, its board created the Music Matters grant, awarded to a local nonprofit in each U.S. tour city. Omi Crawford, executive director of Law Rocks, discussed the initiative. This year's three Los Angeles recipients are Harmony Project; Musicians at Play Foundation; and Young Musicians Foundation.

"Law Rocks has always been about championing nonprofits, especially local organizations that make a real difference in their community," Crawford said. "The Music Matters grant deepens that commitment, helping support music education organizations nationwide as they change young lives through the power of music. It's inspiring and exciting to learn more about each organizations work, truly one of the best things about this work!"
