Jury awards $11.5M to bicyclist injured by raised PCH sidewalk

A Los Angeles County jury found Caltrans liable for a longshoreman's traumatic brain injury after evidence showed the agency had 19 opportunities to address the sidewalk hazard before his 2021 crash.

A Los Angeles County jury awarded $11.5 million Wednesday to a longshoreman who suffered a traumatic brain injury after his bicycle struck a nearly 6-inch-raised sidewalk slab that the California Department of Transportation had not repaired despite repeated warnings and an earlier serious crash at the site.
