Environmental groups challenge federal permit for Santa Barbara oil pipelines

Seven environmental groups asked the 9th Circuit to overturn a federal permit allowing Sable Offshore to operate two oil pipelines, arguing federal regulators improperly displaced California oversight and waived key corrosion protections.

Seven environmental groups asked the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday to overturn a federal permit allowing Sable Offshore Corp. to operate two Santa Barbara County oil pipelines, including the line that ruptured in 2015 and caused the Refugio Oil Spill.
