New law lets Californians over 80 permanently opt out of jury duty
Beginning in 2028, Californians 80 and older will be able to claim a permanent medical exemption from jury service without providing documentation.

Under a new law Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Monday, Californians 80 and older will be able to obtain a permanent medical exemption from jury duty without providing documentation.
AB 1359, which takes effect in 2028, addresses differing practices involving older jurors around the state.
