Judge seeks more briefing on 7-Eleven's Labubu trademark defenses

A federal judge delayed a final ruling on whether 7-Eleven can expand its defenses against Pop Mart's intellectual property claims after the retailer cited new authority concerning ownership of U.S. trademark rights to Labubu and The Monsters toys.

A federal judge Wednesday delayed a final ruling on whether 7-Eleven can expand its defenses in a Chinese toy company's intellectual property lawsuit, ordering additional briefing after the convenience-store chain presented new case law concerning ownership of U.S. trademark rights to Labubu and The Monsters collectible toys.

U.S. District Judge Anne Hwang gave Pop Mart five days to respond to authorities 7-Eleven cited for the first time during an Aug. 12 hearing.
