Trump DOJ steps into private fights over blue-state laws
Justice Department lawyers are taking increasingly prominent roles in private challenges to California environmental regulations and other blue-state laws, framing the disputes around federal supremacy, preemption and constitutional authority.
The Trump administration made two moves this week designed to give it a leading role in challenges filed by private parties against California's environmental rules for heavy trucks.
The cases in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California are part of a wider trend of the U.S. Department of Justice under President Donald Trump getting involved in litigation brought by private parties against blue states and cities.
