A federal judge has refused a request by environmental groups to order Shasta Dam operators to preserve more water for salmon.

In an order Monday, U.S. District Judge Jennifer L. Thurston rejected a request for a temporary restraining order demanding lower releases, cooler river temperatures and at least 2.4 million acre-feet left in Shasta Reservoir by September. She acknowledged that releases for downstream agriculture could be harming salmon.
