California legislative leaders challenge Proposition 39 ballot arguments

Rival lawsuits seek changes to voter materials describing the identification initiative, with Sacramento judges set to consider both cases next week.

California Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, D-Hollister, has filed a new challenge to the ballot language for a voter identification initiative he opposes. The complaint filed Wednesday follows a separate challenge filed by Proposition 39 supporters Monday.
