ATF must provide more notice about online gun purchases
The proposed ATF rule changes that would expand online firearm purchases and allow direct mail delivery raise questions about public notice, background check safeguards and the future role of licensed gun dealers in regulating firearm access.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has proposed an amendment to Department of Justice regulations that will facilitate online gun sales. The changes would permit federal firearms licensees to conduct transfers via remote identity proofing and electronic notices to chief law enforcement officers.
