A Los Angeles judge on Friday refused to lift a discovery stay in a dispute over overlapping childhood sexual abuse settlements until plaintiffs identify the legal theory they would use to invalidate one of the agreements.

Los Angeles County says 28 childhood sexual abuse plaintiffs are seeking recovery under both a $4 billion settlement and a separate $828 million settlement.
