Legislators rush to get rideshare bill on Newsom's desk by Thursday

Gov. Gavin Newsom and legislative leaders announced a broader $11.25 billion housing bond package, including $10 billion for affordable housing programs and $1.25 billion for veterans' housing assistance, clearing the way for SB 623 to become the vehicle for the rideshare deal.

California lawmakers are racing to approve legislation that would cement a last-minute agreement between Uber Technologies Inc. and the Consumer Attorneys of California, potentially avoiding a bruising ballot measure battle that had already attracted more than $150 million in campaign funding.
