Jackson estate arbitration fight tests federal sexual assault law

A federal judge is considering whether sexual abuse claims brought against the Michael Jackson Estate must be arbitrated under a 2020 confidentiality agreement, testing the reach of a federal law limiting arbitration in sexual assault disputes.

A federal judge on Thursday weighed whether the Michael Jackson Estate can force sexual abuse claims brought by members of the Cascio family into private arbitration, setting up a potentially significant test of a federal law designed to limit arbitration in sexual assault cases.
