Oversight Commission sues to enforce subpoenas for sheriff's records

A petition filed Monday claims county counsel cannot simultaneously advise the Oversight Commission and represent the Sheriff's Department while opposing the commission's efforts to obtain investigative records.

A petition filed Monday by the Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission alleges a conflict of interest between the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Office of County Counsel, which the commission accuses of shielding the department from lawfully producing records related to officer-involved shootings and uses of force.
