Jury awards $10M in fatal deputy shooting case

Jurors found a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy acted with a "purpose to harm" when he fatally shot a motorist during a 2021 traffic stop.

A federal jury in Los Angeles unanimously awarded $10,030,000 to the parents of Adrian Sanchez, finding a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy liable for a fatal 2021 shooting. The jury determined that Deputy Kenneth Borbon violated the Fourteenth Amendment rights of Tina Setterberg and Raul Sanchez Jr. with conduct that "shocks the conscience."
