A downtown Los Angeles federal courthouse was renamed Wednesday for the Mendez family, whose landmark school desegregation case helped lay the groundwork for Brown v. Board of Education.

A federal courthouse in downtown Los Angeles received a new name Wednesday, honoring civil rights activists whose legal fight against school segregation for Mexican Americans in California helped pave the way for Brown v.
