DOJ sues UCLA over alleged hostile environment for Jewish and Israeli students
The complaint says masked protesters occupying an encampment "formed 'human phalanxes' to block Jews and Israelis from entering academic buildings," while some students were "kicked," "slapped," beaten with sticks and pepper sprayed.
The U.S. Department of Justice on Tuesday sued the University of California, alleging that UCLA violated federal civil rights law by allowing Jewish and Israeli students to endure a hostile educational environment after the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel.
