Antitrust power shifts to the states

State attorneys general are racking up antitrust wins against mergers and monopolies even when federal regulators back down, while Anthropic's new cybersecurity tool may be thawing its legal standoff with the Trump administration.

State attorneys general are scoring wins in antitrust cases across the nation even when federal regulators have settled disputes or endorsed acquisitions.

The latest example came last Friday night, when U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley of Sacramento granted a preliminary injunction, blocking a merger of companies that operate local television stations, Nexstar Media Group Inc. and Tegna Inc.
