A federal judge ruled DHS violated a longstanding court order by using a new advisal that pressured migrant children to waive legal rights, blocking its use while allowing time for appeal.

A federal judge ruled that the Department of Homeland Security violated a decades-old court order protecting unaccompanied migrant children by using a new advisal that improperly coerced minors into giving up legal rights.

In an order issued Monday, U.S. District Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald in Los Angeles granted in part a motion by plaintiffs in Perez-Funez v. Department of Homeland Security, a landmark class action dating back to 1981.
