Netflix prevails in patent trial, jury rejects $424M DivX claim

Netflix argued that the company's global dominance resulted from its own internal innovation and the use of industry-standard technologies like High Efficiency Video Coding.

A federal jury in Los Angeles rejected claims that Netflix infringed on several proprietary technology patents owned by DivX, LLC. The verdict returned Wednesday concludes a dispute in which DivX sought $424 million in damages for the alleged unauthorized use of its innovations.
