Hunting groups sue to stop Catalina mule deer eradication plan

Conservation and hunting groups allege that the state unlawfully fast-tracked a permit allowing the eradication of mule deer on Santa Catalina Island without environmental review or public input.

Conservation and hunting groups filed a lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court against California wildlife regulators, seeking to halt a plan to eradicate all mule deer on Santa Catalina Island and alleging the state fast-tracked an environmental exemption in less than three weeks while bypassing public review and relying on biased science.
