9th Circuit partly blocks California child online safety law

A unanimous appellate panel found several provisions of the Age-Appropriate Design Code Act too vague to enforce but declined to halt the entire law.

In the latest in a string of setbacks for state tech laws, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals partly blocked California's child online safety law. But the court also allowed portions of the 2022 law to stand. Meanwhile, another circuit is looking at some of the same issues and might reach different conclusions.
