Yolo DA slams court after judge dismisses cases over courtroom shortage
Two misdemeanor prosecutions were thrown out on statutory speedy-trial grounds when no courtroom was available, prompting District Attorney Jeff Reisig to call the outcome an "institutional failure."
Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig sharply criticized the local judiciary after a judge dismissed two misdemeanor cases on statutory speedy-trial grounds because no courtroom was available to begin trial.
The dismissals, ordered Tuesday by Yolo County Superior Court Judge Tom Dyer, stemmed from the court's inability to provide a courtroom before the deadline imposed requiring misdemeanor trials to begin within 30 days unless a defendant waives time.
