Expert appointed to help judge 'get it right' in Logitech mouse dispute

A federal judge overseeing a patent suit against Logitech appointed a neutral technical expert to clarify complex optical mouse technology as the court weighs infringement claims and a pending patent invalidity challenge.

SANTA ANA -- With a candid admission that the technology at the heart of the dispute was outside his comfort zone, a federal judge overseeing a patent infringement suit against Logitech pressed both sides Monday to find a neutral expert who could help him "get this right." That set the stage for a deep technical dive into whether the gaming mouse maker unlawfully copied lift-off sensor technology--or is instead defending against an invalid patent.
