Wixen sues Meta, claims mass music copyright infringement

Wixen Music Publishing sued Meta in federal court, alleging willful copyright infringement, defamation, and coercive licensing tactics after negotiations collapsed and a longstanding agreement expired.

Meta Platforms Inc. is facing a sweeping lawsuit by Wixen Music Publishing Inc., which alleges the social media company willfully infringed thousands of copyrighted works and used defamatory, "strong-arm" tactics to devalue human-generated music.

The complaint filed in the Central District of California seeks at least $70 million in damages and a permanent injunction, accusing Meta--formerly Facebook--of violating a longstanding licensing agreement by continuing to use ...
