Edison seeks CPUC approval to raise rates for wildfire costs

Southern California Edison seeks to recover $2 billion in Woolsey Fire costs through rate hikes, potentially increasing customer bills by up to $3.44 monthly over 30 years, pending CPUC approval.

Southern California Edison seeks to pass to its customers the costs of the lawsuits stemming from the 2018 Woolsey fire, which burned over 96,000 acres and caused some $6 billion in property damage in Malibu.

State investigators pinned the cause on equipment the utility owned and operated. Edison stated in 2019 it was "likely responsible" for the ignition of the Woolsey Fire and settled lawsuits with public entities for $210 million. In 2021, the CPUC fined Edison $550 ...
