Hagens Berman urged a judge to limit sanctions over AI-generated briefs containing fake citations, arguing errors stemmed from oversight, not bad faith, and outlining new firm-wide AI usage policies.

A Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP attorney who filed erroneous AI-generated opposition briefs accepted responsibility and urged a federal judge to limit the punishment, arguing the mistakes stemmed from oversight failures rather than intentional misconduct.

"Hagens Berman, as lead counsel, was responsible for making all the assignments and finalizing the briefs," the firm's attorneys wrote in a response brief Friday.
