Lincenberg, Schiff, Padilla push back on Trump's troop deployment
In a high-stakes 9th Circuit case, attorney Gary Lincenberg and UC Berkeley Dean Erwin Chemerinsky drafted a brief for Democratic senators arguing that Trump's Los Angeles National Guard deployment trampled constitutional safeguards.





Even as President Donald Trump threatened Chicago with the National Guard, he got legal pushback from the West Coast in litigation that could constrain his authority to federalize state troops.
Democratic senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla of California, two of Trump's chief blue state antagonists, assailed the president's deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles as an unlawful "whim" that blew through "myriad constitutional guardrails."
