2 US judges takes different tacks on Essayli's bid to dismiss high-profile cases

One Los Angeles federal judge has dismissed a tax evasion case against Fatburger founder Andrew Wiederhorn at the request of Acting U.S. Attorney Bilal A. Essayli, while another has questioned Essayli's push to erase the conviction of a former sheriff's deputy caught on video using force against a woman. The contrasting approaches highlight the unusual--and politically charged--circumstances surrounding both cases.

Two federal judges in Los Angeles took different approaches to attempts by Acting U.S. Attorney Bilal A. Essayli to dismiss criminal charges against two defendants.
