Appeal claims LA rent control violates takings, free speech rights

Two Los Angeles landlords are appealing a federal judge's dismissal of most claims challenging rent control amendments as constitutional violations. The court ruled the changes were minor and claims largely unripe or time barred.

Two landlords who are challenging the constitutionality of how Los Angeles controls its rent are appealing a federal judge's order that permanently dropped most of their claims as unripe and time barred.

"While we are disappointed with the result in the trial court, we look forward to a full review by the Ninth Circuit of these important constitutional claims by deserving members of our community," Larson LLP partner Rick L. Richmond said in an email Friday.
