A federal judge in Oakland told attorneys on Monday that a $2.5 billion antitrust settlement over name, image and likeness rights between the NCAA and more than 380,000 collegiate athletes was not "the vehicle through which one could get student athletes declared employees."

During a final fairness hearing, U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilken was skeptical of the arguments from attorneys for objectors to the settlement that she preliminarily approved in October.
