Audit shows mixed results of Proposition 47 in 2 Southern California counties

While overall recidivism rates decreased slightly, the number of individuals convicted four or more times increased by 12%.

Proposition 47, California's controversial criminal justice reform measure, has produced positive and concerning outcomes in Riverside and San Bernardino counties since its implementation in 2014, a state audit found.

The California State Auditor's report, released Thursday, examined the effects of Proposition 47 in the two counties. The measure, approved by voters in 2014, reclassified certain theft and drug possession offenses from potential felonies to misdemeanors.
