Judge asks if $80M settlement of VW emissions suit is the last
U.S. Senior District Judge Charles R. Breyer oversaw the motion hearing and gave preliminary approval, finding the settlement to be fair, reasonable and adequate. He noted that the request for attorney fees looked reasonable as well but he would reserve judgment until after any final approval is given, setting the date for that as Oct. 21.
Volkswagen Group of America Inc. and Porsche AG asked a federal judge in San Francisco on Wednesday to preliminarily approve a settlement of more than $80 million to resolve claims the carmakers skewed the emissions and fuel economy test results for gas-powered Porsches by physically altering test vehicles and modifying some. The claims came from a class of customers who bought or leased half a million gas-powered Porsches from 2005 to 2020.
