In a first, Gascón files special circumstances in murder case
“We are relieved that the DA is filing an allegation that should have been charged from the beginning. The family met with the DA’s office several months ago begging that the special circumstance be filed and we were ignored,” said Kathleen M. Cady of Dordulian Law Group, who represents the victim’s family.
In what he called an “extremely rare” deviation from his policy, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced Wednesday he is charging a special circumstance in a murder case that could bring a life without parole sentence.
This is the first time Gascón has sought a special circumstance. He was following the recommendation of his Alternative Charging Evaluation Committee, according to a media officer.
