Stephen D. Sugarman
For generations of students, a defining experience of their first year at UC Berkeley School of Law was torts class with professor Stephen D. Sugarman -- so many generations that some of Sugarman's students have retired after long careers of their own.
"He was really devoted," said Sugarman's widow, Karen Carlson. "He never wished he was elsewhere or made other choices in life. He was so grateful he wound up at Berkeley."
