District attorneys and AG say bail bonds are under consumer law
Counsel for the bond company plaintiff in the case argued in their filings that the legislative history of the consumer law never mentioned bail companies. They also said the Insurance Code regulates bail bonds, not consumer law.
A key consumer protection law applies to bail bond companies, according to amicus briefs submitted Wednesday by Attorney General Rob Bonta and a group of self-described progressive prosecutors.
