If the most potent existential threats to the Olympic Games are war and terrorism, pandemic also makes the podium. This year, the most important numbers are not the likes of 9.8 seconds, 2.37 meters, or 280 pounds, but the number of Tokyo hospital beds available for COVID-19 patients.
