Bill OKs successors pursuing pain, suffering damages for deceased relatives
SB 447, opposed by medical and business organizations, passed the state Senate 21-9.
A bill to allow successors to pursue pain, suffering and disfigurement damages on behalf of deceased relatives in lawsuits has passed the state Senate.
Current laws allow defendants to pay smaller amounts when the harmed person has died, Sen. John Laird, D-Santa Cruz, author of SB 447, said Thursday.
