Bill to ban face recognition in police body cameras passes
After clearing the concurrence vote in the Assembly floor Thursday afternoon, AB 1215, which bans law enforcement from using facial recognition software in body cameras now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s desk, to take action by Oct. 13.
A bill that would ban for three years law enforcement’s use of facial recognition technology in body cameras cleared the California Assembly Thursday.
The state Senate passed AB 1215 Wednesday. Gov. Gavin Newsom now has until Oct. 13 to take action.
Matt Cagle, technology and civil liberties attorney for the ACLU of Northern California, applauded the bill’s passage.
