UC files patent suit against retailers over light bulbs

Retail giants Amazon, Target, Ikea and Walmart are targets of multiple patent infringement lawsuits filed in Los Angeles Tuesday by the University of California regents. The retailers are accused of infringing four of the university’s patents related to “filament” LED light bulbs. The UC regents are also requesting the US International Trade Commission to open a probe into their conducts relating to importing of LED light bulbs.

LOS ANGELES -- Retail giants Amazon.com Inc., Target, Ikea, Wal-Mart and Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. are illegally selling filament LED light bulbs developed by UC Santa Barbara, patent lawsuits filed Tuesday allege.
